About Southampton Women's Aid

Southampton Women’s Aid is run by dedicated and passionate staff and volunteers to help women, children and young people who are affected by domestic abuse in the Southampton area.

Our aim is to provide support and information to those affected by domestic abuse and to raise public awareness of this issue within our community. Our approach to working with women is non-directive, aiming to support women to help themselves, to rebuild confidence, make decisions which keep them and their children safe, and to enable them to live free from harm and fear.

We have worked within the City of Southampton for over 40 years, pioneering the development of support services for women and children affected by domestic abuse.  We began with a small group of women providing support and information for women, and lobbying at a local level to seek funding to establish the City’s first safe house, a refuge where women and children fleeing violence could be safely accommodated.

We have evolved over the years to provide a range of support services and we are excited to be working towards a strong future for domestic violence services in Southampton.

These statistics show how domestic violence is affecting the lives of many women and children in Southampton and that it is vital our work can continue to support them.
